Detailed Physical Description[]
As described by Paige, the Sentinel is an eyeless sculpture of brass. It's shapeless form sits atop six pink, stilt legs. Its eyes are set on stalks and it's shell is covered in dog designs which fit into the rest of the swirls and patterns.[1]
Behaviour[]
The Sentinel acts as a guard dog for Augustus Roake at 113 Longray Mansions. It attacks trespassers and destroys the home. However, it does respond to and recognise the prayer marks of The Trawler-man.[1]
Context In The Story[]
After Roake's tape ends, Paige notices that one of the statues by the river is missing. The Sentinel attacks the bungalow, assuming them to be trespassers. Faulkner draws prayer marks of the Trawler-man in order to help the angel recognise them as members of the faith. When Faulkner loses his concentration, the sentinel attacks him. Carpenter and Paige manage to drive Faulkner away from 113 Longray Mansions.[1]
